Sports Reporting
Shot and edited March 19, 2015 by Marc Lagace. Featuring reporter Derek Gagnon.
Broadcasting
This is a clip of the Canada West men’s hockey broadcast I produced and directed for the University of Manitoba Bisons. U of M Bisons vs U of Saskatchewan Huskies.
With the game tied 1-1 after a 4-on-4 overtime period, we pick up the action just before the start of 3-on-3 overtime.

The Manitoban
During my time at The Manitoban, I was never required to produce video content to accompany my articles. However, there were two occasions where I felt that video was crucial in sharing the story. Below are two videos that I shot, edited and produced independently:
DITCHBALL
Ditchball is an annual quasi-sporting event put on by the U of Manitoba Architecture student body as a way to de-stress during exam time. Here’s some raw video of what Ditchball looks like:
U OF M HOME TO WORLD’S FIRST HOCKEY PLAYING ROBOT
I stumbled across a really interesting story at the University’s pop-up skating rink on the Quad. As I was making my way around the rink towards University Centre, I spied Chris Iverach-Brereton running tests with his DARwIn-OP robot on the ice. After talking with him about the project, I immediately knew I had to cover this story not only with words and pictures, but video as well.
This was my first attempt at producing a video story without any formal training or production education.
The Winnipeg Sun
I was fortunate to spend the bulk of December in work placement with the Winnipeg Sun sports department. During my time there, I had the opportunity to shoot video at the Winnipeg Jets visit to the Rehab Centre for Children for their annual holiday visit. This was the resulting video which accompanied my article on the day as well.
Creative
While pursuing my Film Studies degree at the University of Manitoba, I had the privilege to work with a talented group of students on a feature-length adaptation of Robert Cormier’s The Chocolate War. I filled in on several roles during the production of The Assignment, from screenwriting to acting and crewing on set. Below is one of the trailers for the film.
One of our first-year assignments in CreComm was to produce a montage synced to a song. I decided to produce a music video for the song “A Plea From A Cat Named Virtue” by Winnipeg’s own, The Weakerthans.
